Roving Pictures
2003. Exhibited at the
Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Buffalo, NY. With T. Berns.
The media installation is the reconstruction of an event, the recording with a video camera mounted on a crane of the work surface of a defunct metal-works factory in Osaka, Japan. The video recorded in Japan is projected from a moving robotic arm that retraces the path of the crane, onto a CNC milled 32 foot-long image-scape derived from a photo-mosaic of the factory floor, itself assembled from stills extracted from the video. The circularity of the process is broken when the moving projected video image encounters the modeled surface it generated.
