BLACK MASS
2017
The project is for a desacralized church in Buffalo, N.Y. now renamed Assembly House, whose new mission is to realize “visionary art/architectural projects that enhance the sense of MAGIC in our built environment and intensify awareness of the life cycles of places”. BLACK MASS brings together two identical, but differently oriented architectural figures, a still life of mute forms, and sets them up in the transept opposite each other on either side of a narrow path centered on the longitudinal axis of the church. The assembly of two architectural figures constructs new spatial narratives and accommodates various programmatic requirements like a book/reading room,lecture/exhibition space. New constructions on and around the two figures will integrate them into the creative life of the former church.
