Black Maria #2
2007
The design for photographer’s studio in Brittany, France uses Edison’s rotating film studio named the Black Maria as model and inspiration for a small rotating building, that is at times studio, exhibition space and lecture room. Various forms of projection act as spatial generators for a building that must behave like a viewing device, a reflex camera and magic lantern.
The black EPDM rubber cladding, which protects the building from wind blown sea water, and the high gloss white interior for maximum light, appear in stark contrast when seen together.
